One dead in violent cash-in-transit heist
A security officer died and another was injured during a violent cash-in-transit heist near Brits on Monday morning.

The cash van was bombed.
According to information, an unknown number of robbers in three vehicles cornered the cash van and accompanying security vehicle on the N4 between Mooinooi and Majakaneng at approximately 08:30.
One of the robbers’ vehicles, a Volvo, burst into flames when it rammed into the cash van. The robbers opened fire, killing the driver of the accompanying security vehicle, and causing the vehicle to turn over.
The robbers bombed the cash van and fled in a Volkswagen Amarok and a Mercedes. It is not yet known if they fled with money.
According to eyewitnesses, money was strewn over the scene and opportunistic people grabbed and ran with as much as they could.
Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) transported an injured security officer to a hospital.
Police spokesperson Captain Sam Tselanyane said that various units and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) members are currently attending to the cash-in-transit robbery scene on the N4. The scene is still active.
