Two suspects who had shot a man in Broederstrom were cornered in a roadblock near the police station after a high-speed chase by security companies through Hartbeespoort on Saturday.

The suspects were caught in a roadblock in Scott Street.

According to Arthur Crewe of SRU Security, they received an alert that someone was shot near Sangiro on Saturday afternoon. “SRU immediately responded. A lookout was circulated for two vehicles. SRU response teams searched for the vehicles while some attended to the wounded man,” Crewe said.
In the meantime, members of the local CPF responded and the two suspects returned to the scene in a different vehicle. “Community members recognised them and, along with the CPF members, tried to stop them. The suspects attempted to run over the community members and fled.”
SRU security officers spotted the vehicle, and a chase ensued. Assistance was requested from a law enforcement group, and a Bidvest helicopter, security companies and community members joined the chase.
“At one stage, the suspects stopped in the middle of the road and pointed a firearm at SRU security officers. Then they got back into the car and fled over the dam wall. In the meantime, a roadblock was set up near Hartbeespoort police station, where they were eventually cornered. Two suspects were arrested and handed over to the police,” he said. Crewe thanked security companies, CPF and community members who assisted in the successful capture and arrest of the suspects.
“The wounded victim was luckily not critically injured.”
