Successful NSRI training exercise
Despite challenging high winds, the NSRI Station 25 training exercise on Hartbeespoort Dam was a resounding success this past Saturday, attracting a large and enthusiastic crowd of spectators.
The event featured a dramatic simulated boat fire, ignited by canons, with two “victims” in the water calling for help. Flares lit up the sky as crews from NSRI Station 25, the Hartbeespoort Marine Law Enforcement Unit, and SRU sprang into action. Lights, sirens, and coordinated firefighting tactics demonstrated the skill and dedication of the volunteer teams.
Station Commander Arthur Crewe praised both the volunteers and the community. “The support from our community was incredible. Training like this ensures our crews are ready for real emergencies, and it was wonderful to see so many people come out to watch and show their encouragement.”
The NSRI expressed gratitude for the donations of equipment and resources that made the training possible, as well as the strong community presence on the day.
Those interested in joining the NSRI family are encouraged to step forward. For enquiries about volunteering or the application process, please contact Station 25 at 082 990 5061.
The NSRI thanks the community once again for its continued support — together, we keep our waters safe.
