De Wildt – Two survive light aircraft crash

A pilot and co-pilot survived a light aircraft crash at De Wildt on Monday morning.

The small place crashed in an informal settlement.

According to a witness at the scene, the small Bathawk plane crashed shortly before 09:30 in an informal settlement close to the N4/M17 road.
“According to information on the scene, the aircraft took off from Kroon Airfield in De Wildt earlier, and on its way back, experienced engine trouble. The aircraft crashed in a field in an informal settlement,” the witness said.
The pilot was transported to a hospital for observation. The co-pilot was not injured. “No other people were injured or structures were damaged.”
Emergency services, law enforcement and Civil Aviation representatives were at the scene.
