10 Rehabilitated vultures released
Vulpro recently successfully released ten rehabilitated Cape Vultures in the Magaliesberg at Nooitgedacht near Hartbeespoort.

Ten Cape vultures were released in the Magaliesberg near Hartbeespoort. On the photo are Alistair Sinclair, Mireille Ockenfels and Devilliers Bainet Disi releasing the vultures.
“This marks another significant milestone in the conservation of this endangered species. Cape Vultures face numerous threats, including habitat loss, poisoning, and collisions with power lines. These birds underwent intensive rehabilitation, receiving medical treatment and flight conditioning before being deemed fit for release. Several individuals were also fitted with tracking devices to monitor their movements and ensure their ongoing safety,” said Vulpro spokesperson Tracy Karam.
Post-release monitoring remains a priority to track the birds’ progress and gather valuable conservation data.
As nature’s clean-up crew, vultures play a vital role in preventing the spread of disease. However, with populations in decline, conservation initiatives such as these releases are essential in securing their future.
