Proudly Harties has joined hands with a Sunway resident and the Clean South Africa initiative, and a major clean-up in Sunway and Refentse is planned for 6 December.
The initiative was started by Mologadi Mogotlane, a Sunway resident who has made it her mission to educate and motivate those around her to dispose of litter responsibly to prevent health hazards. Soon after moving to Sunway about 7 years ago, Mologadi and her two young children started suffering from asthma. As a single mother of two teenagers, she gave up her job, which included night shifts, to be with her children and ensure their safety at night.
Littering and a lack of hygiene in Sunway and the surrounding areas have been troubling her for years, and she links it to her family’s decline in health. “Then I saw Clean South Africa’s campaigns, and I decided to join them. She has now made it her mission to educate and motivate people to dispose of litter responsibly to prevent pests and health hazards, and reduce stray dogs, cats and monkeys that tear open refuse bags. She is planning to organise regular clean-ups.
The Proudly Harties Organisation saw Mologadi’s advertisement for a clean-up and decided to join her. She shared her story. Proudly Harties is now joining forces for the event, using our communication platform to ask residents from Sunway and Refentse to take part in the clean-up. The organisation will also provide posters, extra bin bags, masks and bottled water for volunteers on the day. The organisation has also committed to supporting Madibeng Municipality Solid Waste Department in finding sustainable solutions that involve more regular collection of solid waste, supplying skips and kerbing of illegal dumping and burning of solid waste in the area,” Adri Louw of Proudly Harties said.
Clean South Africa members will also join the event and will sponsor additional bags, masks and pickers for the volunteers.
Residents are encouraged to join the clean-up and help improve their living environment.
