Progress on R511 construction
The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) is steadily progressing with the construction of the R511 Beestekraal to the North West and Limpopo border. The route is an important connector between Brits and Thabazimbi.

Work is progressing on the R511 at Brits.
The R339 million project covers 42km of road. The scope of work includes partial reconstruction of the pavement and resurfacing. The work also includes the improvement of a bridge for pedestrian movement and drainage structures along the route.
SANRAL said progress on the project is steady, with construction currently sitting at 60% completion. “The estimated completion date is scheduled for April 2026.
In line with SANRAL’s commitment to community development and empowerment, 20 local subcontractors have been appointed to participate in the project. “Significantly, four of these are women-owned enterprises taking up work packages in concrete side drains, culvert construction, guardrails, and fuel and material supply. Their involvement highlights SANRAL’s emphasis on creating space for women in the construction sector, a field traditionally dominated by men,” SANRAL said.
“Beyond business opportunities, SANRAL has also prioritised skills development and job creation within local communities. To date, more than 133 local labourers have been employed on the project, gaining valuable workplace experience. In addition, R300 000 has been invested in training programmes, equipping local community members with construction-related skills.”
