HEMS warns about water safety
With warmer days ahead, many of us will be enjoying the outdoors, swimming, and having fun with family and friends. While it’s a great time to relax and cool off, it’s also important to remember water safety. Drowning can happen quickly and silently — in just seconds.
Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) gives tips to keep you and your loved ones safe around water.
• Never leave children unattended near water – not even for a moment
• Teach children basic swimming and water safety skills.
• Always swim in safe, designated areas with lifeguards if possible.
• Avoid swimming alone – use the “buddy system.”
• Be mindful of alcohol around water – it impairs judgment and reaction time.
• Learn CPR – it could save a life in an emergency.
