Kosmos murder case postponed due to power outage
Paul Prinsloo (62)
Kosmos resident Paul Prinsloo (62), who is accused of murdering his wife and stepdaughter, briefly appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Thursday before the case was again postponed due to a power outage.
After the electricity supply was restored, the court’s recording devices malfunctioned. Prinsloo has been incarcerated since November last year after he allegedly shot and killed his wife Magdaleen (58) and stepdaughter Ruzanne Weideman (31) at their house in Kosmos on 27 November 2023. This was his 10th appearance in court in the ongoing bail hearing.
Prinsloo’s legal team was supposed to cross-examine the state witness, Nico Pienaar who was present when Prinsloo allegedly shot the women with a hunting rifle. Pienaar testified at the previous hearing that heated arguments between the two women and Prinsloo preceded the murders.
He told the court that Prinsloo had told him shortly before the murders that he was going to kill the two women and Magdaleen’s ex-boyfriend. Pienaar testified that he rushed Weideman’s six-year-old to safety after the shootings.
Magistrate Regan Rosenburg postponed the bail hearing to 10 June.
