Still no news about Hartbeespoort Dam leases
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) said this week that no lease agreements have been entered into yet.

Shore leases have not been awarded yet.
This follows after interested parties had to apply for leases on DWS property around Hartbeespoort Dam. According to DWS spokesperson Wisane Mavasa, the evaluation committee (LLC) is still evaluating applications, and some applications still have to be vetted. “Both parties will sign after vetting,” she said.
DWS said earlier this year that the department was currently reviewing all lease applications submitted between 2012 and 31 July 2024 as part of a broader national land lease review process.
Mavasa said a total of 77 applications were received and pre-screened. “Applicants were requested to submit outstanding information. Only 21 complied, and these 21 applications were presented to the Land Lease Committee for consideration. One applicant has since withdrawn. The remaining 55 did not submit the required information, despite departmental follow-up, and therefore could not be processed further.”
Twenty-three Expression of Interest (EOI) applications were received and pre-screened. “Six were presented to the Land Lease Committee, and the remaining are being reviewed,” Mavasa said.
