Madibeng owes Eskom R1.4 billion – investigation team to be deployed

These were some of the facts presented during a recent meeting between Madibeng councillors and the North West Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) following allegations of maladministration.
COGTA MEC Oageng Molapisi allegedly told Madibeng councillors that the municipality has not been performing for quite some time. COGTA has now instituted a forensic investigation to address the alleged maladministration and financial misconduct.
Madibeng owes R1.7 billion for bulk electricity, R818.39 million for bulk water, R89.6 million to trade creditors and R1.3million to the Auditor-General.
A total of R3.9 billion is owed to Madibeng by households, businesses and the government for services rendered by Madibeng. The biggest culprits are households that owe Madibeng R3.1 million.
