Hundreds take part in Hartbeespoort clean-up
Around 300 people took part in the annual Hartbeespoort Clean and Restore project last weekend and over 500 large bags of rubbish were removed from the area.
“On Saturday at 07:00, hundreds of people from businesses, churches, schools, NGOs and government institutions gathered at various points around the dam for the annual mega clean and restore project organised by WESSA Northern Areas Region, Rotary Club of Brits Hartbeespoort and Birdlife Harties. A clean environment and maintained infrastructure will not only improve living conditions but also boost much-needed tourism, the lifeblood of many businesses in Hartbeespoort,” said John Wesson of WESSA and Birdlife Harties.
Part of the focus was the cleaning of the bird islands in Ifafi.
“We received very welcome support from Magalies Water, Methodist Church, In2food, South African Space Agency and the Hartbeespoort Inhabitants Forum. Companies that gave support in the way of tools, PPE, food and people on the ground were WESSA Northern Areas Region, B&C Agricultural Holdings, John Dory, Jo Apparel, Fishaway, In2food, Dreiers, Midas, The Islands Spar and VIP Detailing. We apologize if anyone has been left off this list,” Wesson said.
“We hope that the various teams continue with this momentum on an ongoing basis to keep Hartbeespoort clean and maintained and that more support will be forthcoming from other large chain stores who all benefit from a clean environment.”
