Independent water testing starts on Hartbeespoort Dam
A water testing project by Rotary Brits Hartbeespoort and WESSA Northern areas kicked off last week and the first water samples were tested this week.
The project kicked off with a number of interested parties joining in from various organisations and sponsor groups. Those included Mariette Lieferinck from the Federation of Sustainable Environment, representatives of Magalies Water, representatives of various estates, Rotary Club of Brits Hartbeespoort, WESSA Northern areas, a number of scientists, professional laboratory technicians who supervised the sampling and Rod Genricks, who carried out the sonar part of the testing.
“The aim of the project is to obtain water samples from a number of key points around the dam including where the various rivers enter the dam and depending on donations repeat the process each quarter. If funding is available we will look at biological testing in summer where now only chemical testing is being done,” said John Wesson of WESSA.
The project is being driven by WESSA Northern Areas and the Rotary Club of Brits Hartbeespoort with the first batch of testing being sponsored by Estate de Afrique, Eagles Landing, Blue Planet, The Boat Company and WESSA Northern Areas.
The independent results will be shared on all media platforms for the public to view. Kormorant will report on the test results in the next issue.
