“He went out of his way to save my life. This man is a truly amazing person!”

David Mwanza (28)

David Mwanza (28) a Checkers Sixty 60 delivery driver braced a torrent of rain and his own safety to assist Hartbeespoort resident Cynthia Sealie who had crashed into the bushes along the Cableway road two weeks ago.
“I was on my way home in heavy rain around 18:20 when a child ran over the road in front of me. I swerved, lost control of the car and crashed into the bushes.” Cynthia lost consciousness. David was on his way home about 19:00 when he spotted car lights in the bushes along the road.
“It was raining and water got into one eye. I turned my head to shake the water out and I saw lights in the bushes. I think it was God’s way of making me aware of the situation. I immediately realised something strange was going on. I pulled to the side of the road although I knew it was dangerous on that road, but I knew something was wrong,” he said.
David called out several times and when he did not get a response, he walked into the bush to the car. “A woman was unconscious inside the car. The doors were locked but her window was slightly open. I managed to push down the window and open the door. Luckily I had done a First Aid course and I checked her pulse and breathing. She was in and out of consciousness and kept saying a name.”
David spotted her phone and looked for the name Cynthia was saying. It was a family member and David called her. Shortly afterwards David flagged down a passing police vehicle. “They told me I could leave but I wanted to stay until her family arrived. I promised them I would stay with her.”
Cynthia suffered a serious concussion and is still recuperating. “I am so grateful to David, if it wasn’t for him…”
