Disaster management teams across the province remain on high alert.
In the Brits and Hartbeespoort areas, several roads have become inaccessible. The R511 north of Brits was flooded at various locations on Wednesday with reports of vehicles being washed away. The R511 (Hennops River Road) is being closely monitored for flooding.
The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the North West has warned residents to be cautious and vigilant and to stay off the roads if possible.
The department said persistent heavy rainfall continues and poses a threat of flooding, especially in low-lying areas, bridges and roads. The department urges people to remain alert and monitor news broadcasts and social media for updates on the conditions. “In the face of the risks, we urge all communities to delay trips to areas where heavy rains are experienced.”
Power outages are experienced in large areas in and around Hartbeespoort and Brits. Communities are requested to be patient as the disruptive rain makes it difficult to attend to outages.
