Hartbeespoort Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) introduced its newly revamped shelter during the Spring Open Kennel Day last weekend.
HAWS now boasts a cheerful look, larger kennels and a walking path where dogs can be taken for walks.
Well-known Hartbeespoort artist Elsabe Pienaar and her students have spent the past weeks painting colourful murals, brightening up the shelter. “It was so uplifting to create cheerful surroundings and we loved doing it. I want to thank my team of students for their hard work to help the animals,” Elsabé said. Dreiers sponsored all the paint for the murals that now adorn the once-drab walls.
ENI Supplies offered their services to clear and grade the area around the kennels which now enables visitors to take the dog in the shelter for walks, Three Oaks & an Aloe Boutique Hotel sponsored new uniforms for HAWS staff, and Upperdeck sponsored snacks for the Spring Open Day.
“We want to thank all these sponsors and our supporters who assisted in making our shelter a better place for the animals in our care and visitors. We hope this will motivate more community members in Hartbeespoort to come and visit and spend some time with our animals to brighten up their lives as well. And a special thank you to our dedicated staff who look after the animals. A heartfelt thank you to everyone,” said Ilka van der Merwe of HAWS.
Please visit HAWS to see the new cheerful kennels and take a bag of dog or cat food to treat the abandoned animals at the shelter.
