The historic railway line from Pretoria through Hartbeespoort to Magaliesburg is currently being removed by Transnet. Contractors removed the railway line in Meerhof last week, leaving only upturned soil. Transnet told Kormorant this week it had appointed a service provider to remove the old railway line to prevent further theft and vandalism of infrastructure. “Only 11km of the 40km railway line is now left. Transnet employees are working with the contractor to collect the scrap ferrous steel metal along the lines,” Transnet said.
