Update – Body of man who fell overboard recovered in Hartbeespoort Dam

Police and NSRI divers searched for two days.

The body of a 40-year-old Hartbeespoort man who fell off a boat on Hartbeespoort Dam on Saturday was found on Monday afternoon. The man has been identified as Sibusiso Mchunu (40).
According to Arthur Crewe of the Hartbeespoort NSRI, the man and a group of friends were on the stationary boat near the Randburg bridge around 14:25 when the man and two women fell overboard in undetermined circumstances. “The two women were recovered and not injured but the man disappeared beneath the water,” Crewe said.
The NSRI, police, SRU (Strategic Rescue Unit) and the newly established Marine Law Enforcement on the Dam were alerted and rushed to the scene.
An extensive search by police and NSRI divers continued until Monday afternoon when his body was found. Crewe said the hyacinth on the dam hampered search efforts at times.
“The family of the missing man were at the scene and had been supported by counsellors. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased man during this difficult time,” Crewe said.
