Breaking – Watch: Kosmos Burning
A helicopter joined firefighters at Kosmos Village in Hartbeespoort around 14:30 on Sunday in an attempt to put out the last of the fires that have been spreading since early afternoon.
Approximately eight houses have burnt down and a large contingency emergency services are still on the scene. The helicopter is currently water-bombing the remaining fires.
“It has already dumped over 13 loads and will continue until it needs to refuel,” said Arthur Crewe of SRU Strategic Response Rescue Unit.
A fire started in a thatched roof house in Simon Bekker Street shortly before 12:00. Due to the strong wind it quickly spread to neighbouring homes. Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service’s fire unit, Madibeng Fire, Afriforum’s fire unit and a number of security and rescue companies were on site to assist.
