Car rolls, 8 vehicles damaged in robbery attempts on N4
Eight motorists fell victim to barriers on the N4 last Wednesday and Friday during a spate of attempted robberies on the now notorious highway near Brits. During one of the incidents a vehicle rolled over and two people were injured.
On Wednesday night, five vehicles were forced to stop after hitting large rocks on this notorious highway. “Aequitas Security Solutions was alerted on Wednesday night, by a community member that there has been spiking on the N4, close to the De Wildt offramp. Shortly after more reports came through of multiple incidents on the N4 between the M21 De Wildt offramp and Brits. Aequitas Security Solutions, TMPD, police and Big D Towing were quick on scene and provided safety and support to five vehicles and prevented the victims from being robbed,” said Ettienne Louw of Aequitas Security.
“While the police and security officers are busy on one scene, the suspects set up other traps just 100 metres away. Security officers and police were trying to be everywhere to prevent motorists from being attacked,” said Kobus Grobler of the rural community safety structure.
Two nights later, on Friday, the scene repeated itself. This time it culminated in two injuries when a bakkie rolled after hitting boulders. Two more incidents were again reported, 100 to 200 metres from the first incident. The two injured motorists were transported to hospital by Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS).
“We thank all services for their continued support for motorists on this portion of the N4 between the R80 bridge and the R512.”
