First big ultramarathon win for Om Die Dam winner

Trojan Om Die Dam winner Lebogang Khonkhobe (36) won his first ultramarathon when he crossed the finish line in a time of 02:55:10 last Saturday.

The Nedbank Running Club athlete has had a couple of near wins in his running career, but could never take first on the podium.
“Today’s race made me proud of all the work I have put in and I am now ready for the Comrades,” he said after the win. Khonkhobe’s best time in the Comrades Ultra is 05:48:32.

Roné Steenkamp won the women’s race.

Roné Steenkamp won the women’s division in 03:40:32.
Over 2 000 athletes entered the 50km ultramarathon. The 21km half marathon and the 8km fun run also had approximately 2 000 entries.
