Hawks arrest 3 police detectives
The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation members arrested three police detectives aged 39, 44 and 48 on Monday, 26 February 2024, near Brits for alleged corruption.
Sergeant Lucky Makhubele (39), Sergeant Christopher Nkuna (44) and Sergeant Elizabeth Makhasi appeared in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 27 February 2024 and the case was postponed to 28 February 2024 for bail application.
“They were arrested at a mall in Hebron. Reports indicate that the trio solicited payment from the complainant in order not to arrest him. They allegedly demanded R6 000 and the complainant was able to pay them R2 000. The suspects reportedly contacted the complainant demanding the outstanding amount,” said Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula.
“After the matter was brought to the Hawks’ attention, an entrapment was set and the three were caught soon after receiving R4 000 from the complainant. They have been charged with corruption.”
