Former mayor of Kosmos and well-known resident Corrie Cartwright passed away at the age of 92 on 24 September.
Cartwright was a visionary who fought hard for Kosmos to become an independent municipality, which became a reality in 1989. Corrie was elected councillor, mayor and council chairperson of what was then a very viable municipality. She also represented Kosmos on the Pretoria Regional Services Council. During her tenure as mayor, Corrie swept through Kosmos putting in place a slew of projects to upgrade and legalise what had till
then, been unregulated living arrangements of property owners.
Some of projects in Kosmos Village she worked on include the Kosmos Chapel, Kosmos Marina Club, Kosmos Sport and Recreation Club and Kosmos Amateur Dramatic Society.
The family had lived in Kosmos since 1971.
“Take a walk or drive through Kosmos, and you see her silent stamp everywhere. In short, Corrie was without a doubt, the best thing that ever happened to Kosmos,” said Cherry Grobler of the Kosmos Village Association.
