The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs has decided to institute an investigation into Madibeng Municipality, motivated by allegations of maladministration.
COGHSTA invoked Section 106 (1)(b) of the Local Government Municipal Systems which empowers the MEC for local government to request information or appoint investigators if he or she has reason to believe that maladministration fraud, corruption or any other serious malpractice has occurred or is occurring in a municipality.
During a meeting with Madibeng councillors on Thursday, COGHSTA will introduce the investigators to Madibeng Council.
