NSRI needs flares, fire equipment for crucial exercise
The NSRI Station 25 training exercise, set to take place this September, is calling on the community for vital support.

The NSRI needs the community’s assistance for its training exercise.
“This annual event prepares our volunteer rescue crews to face real-life emergencies on the dam — but we cannot do it without the community’s help. We urgently need donations of fire equipment, flares, and even an old or unwanted boat to be used for realistic fire and rescue training. These items play a crucial role in ensuring our team is fully prepared to handle fires on boats, flare signalling, and other life-threatening situations on our waters,” said Arthur Crewe, station commander of Hartbeespoort NSRI.
The community’s contributions directly support essential training that saves lives. Each donation helps the brave volunteers build their skills and confidence, ensuring they are ready to respond when disaster strikes.
“Many may remember that our 2024 training took place just before the devastating Kosmos fires. Thanks to that crucial preparation, NSRI Station 25 was able to respond swiftly and assist with containing the fires, preventing them from spreading to more homes and saving countless lives and properties. This is a powerful reminder of why ongoing training and community support are so critical.

“Let’s come together as a community to keep our waters and our people safe — because every life matters.”
