NSRI and police are currently searching for the missing man

A search is ongoing for a 40-year-old Hartbeespoort man who fell overboard from a boat on the Hartbeespoort Dam on Saturday.
According to Arthur Crewe of the Hartbeespoort NSRI, the man and a group of friends were on the stationary boat near the Randburg bridge around 14:25 when the man and two women fell overboard in undetermined circumstances. “The two women were recovered and not injured but the man disappeared beneath the water,” Crewe said.
The NSRI, police, SRU (Strategic Rescue Unit) and the newly established Marine Law Enforcement on the Dam were alerted and rushed to the scene. “Despite an extensive search, which included NSRI rescue swimmers conducting free dive searches, there have been no signs of the missing man so far,” Crewe said on Sunday morning.
“The family of the missing man were at the scene and are being supported by counsellors.”
Police divers, assisted by NSRI and SRU, are continuing an ongoing search operation. Crewe said the hyacinth on the dam is hampering search efforts.
“Private boaters, who were in the area at the time, are commended for commencing a search while raising the alarm. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the missing man at this difficult time,” Crewe said.
