Public urged not to use fireworks
The festive season is here and animal welfare organisations, law enforcement bodies and animal lovers once again appeal to all community members not to use fireworks during the holiday season.
The use of fireworks is strictly prohibited unless you are in possession of a special permit to do so. Disaster Management will only grant
permits in very exceptional cases. The use of fireworks creates a massive risk of veld fires, especially in this dry season. Domestic animals as well as wildlife are often victims of fireworks and can become seriously injured. Every year animal welfare organisations have their hands full rounding up run-away pets.
A serious appeal is made to all residents to desist from using fireworks. Please consider your environment and your fellow community members and animals by not detonating fireworks this festive season.
