How is rainfall measured?
Rainfall is measured using a rain gauge which gathers and measures the depth of liquid precipitation (usually in millimeters) that falls over a specific area. The rain collects in the cylinder, and the depth of the water is then measured. 1 mm of rainfall means 1 liter of water per square meter (1 mm of rain translates to 1 liter of water in a single square meter).
