Robber killed during farm attack, 2 arrested
A robber was shot and killed, possibly by one of his accomplices, during a farm attack near Brits on Thursday.
According to police spokesperson Captain Aafje Botma, a 21-year-old woman was home alone on a farm in Bokfontein when armed robbers broke into the house at around 20:00 on Thursday. “The dogs barked and when she went to investigate, she was confronted by three armed men in the kitchen,” Botma said.
The woman was assaulted, threatened and forced into the bedroom. The robbers stole a television, cellphone and a generator before fleeing on foot. “According to the victim, she heard two shots after they had fled the house. She alerted neighbours who called security services and the police.
The body of one of the suspects, dressed in a black hoodie, blue track pants and All Star takkies, was found a distance from the house. Botma said the possibility that he may have been shot by one of his accomplices will be investigated.
“Following the attack, a crime intelligence operation was conducted on Friday, 12 January 2024, in Skeerpoort where the first suspect was found and a .22 special revolver with five empty cartridges, a 9mm blank pistol with two cartridges and an orange wolf chain zig saw were seized. The operation proceeded to Bokfontein where another suspect allegedly involved in the house robbery was also arrested. Both suspects were arrested and the investigation into the matter continues. The duo, aged 26 and 35 appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on charges of unlawful possession of firearms, possession of suspected stolen property and murder.
