A new little gem has made its appearance in Hartbeespoort recently. Dynamic brother and sister team, Joss and Chris Jeurissen, combined their diverse passions and created a surprisingly unique enterprise that now draws locals and tourists alike.

Joss and Chris Jeurissen

The duo opened a quaint deli with exclusive products and a flower-picking patch on the slopes of Saartjiesnek off the R511. Add a peaceful garden for a takeaway picnic from the deli and a dog-walking and hiking trail, and Larder Farm Stall and Bev’s Blooms are the perfect getaway when you need peace.
“We had real jobs before this,” Joss laughs. “I was a bookkeeper and Chris a cyber security specialist, and now we sell flowers and smoked meat!”
Joss started dabbling in flowers, especially Dahlias, about four years ago and Chris discovered a hobby – smoking meat. He started selling smoked products at markets and the reaction was phenomenal. “In the meantime, I read about the Floret flower farm in America that pretty much started the flower-picking patch trend. I really liked the idea and Chris and I started talking about a joint venture. I was already growing and experimenting with dahlias just for fun. The turning point came when my father considered selling the property on Saartjiesnek where Larder and Bev’s Blooms are now located. It was time to realise our ideas. And hence, the deli and flower-picking patch!”
Larder and Bev’s Blooms opened in December and have been a hit since the start. Besides Chris’ delicious variety of smoked meats, Larder is a showcase for local delicacies such as cheeses, sauces, nuts, coffee, nuts, bath products and much more. “We source local products and so give back to the community.” Think of delicacies such as tomato and olive pesto, bacon jam, Rum syrup, authentic Italian pasta sauces, pickled fennel and much more.
The quaint establishment is a perfect outing for families who want to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, delicious treats and fragrant flowers. It offers picnic spots in the tree-rich garden where the deli’s scrumptious takeaway meals can be enjoyed. An outing to The Larder and Bev’s Blooms offers something for every member of the family. It is dog-friendly and offers a dog walking and hiking trail. After having a leisurely picnic or hike, the family can pick their own beautiful and fragrant flowers at Bev’s Blooms which offers approximately 15 Dahlia varieties.
Larder is open daily and flower picking takes place on Saturdays and Sundays.
