Thomas 3rd in OCR world championships
Local athlete Thomas van Tonder won third place at the recent Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Championships in California.
Thomas competed in the 3km championship event in the pro division. The 3K event at the 10th OCRWC was particularly tough this year. From almost vertical climbs, to new and testing obstacles this course was not to be messed with. The 3K is engineered for speed with 15+ obstacles and enough elevation gain to make athletes’ lungs beg for mercy.
Thomas, already a world OCR champion, made a spectacular comeback after an absence of five years at the OCRWC. “After 5 years of not being able to attend this event, I’m so grateful to be able to step back onto the podium on the world stage,” he said.
