Three more senior Madibeng officials suspended
Three senior officials of the Madibeng municipality were suspended on allegegations of financial misconduct during a council meeting last week.

The Chief Financial Officer Morufa Moloto, Director of Infrastructure and Technical Services Ofentse Masilo and Director of Human Settlements and Planning Walter Phala were suspended for 90 days with full pay pending the investigation outcome.
Moloto is accused of misconduct in 3 cases of deviation. According to the notice of intention to suspend, Moloto allegedly, in her capacity as acting municipal manager, approved a motivation to deviate from normal procurement processes by mispresenting facts. The project cost the municipality over R3 million which was not budgeted for. Masilo is accused of providing the motivation that Moloto approved. Moloto is also accused of not paying due diligence when she approved payment of a project involving the Brits taxi rank and the Letlhabile fire station. Masilo in turn is accused of misleading the accounting officer and the CFO by creating an emergency where there was none, causing them to pay for the taxi rank and fire station project which was not budgeted for. It cost the municipality over R2 million. Phala is also accused of approving the motivation to pay for this project. All three are also accused of deviation on remediation of a surcharge sewerage project.
“The three officials were suspended on allegations of financial misconduct for a period not exceeding 90 days pending finalisation of investigations,” said spokesperson Tumelo Tshabalala.
