Tshwane cut electricity supply to Refentse, Sunway

The City of Tshwane disconnected the electricity supply to the Sunway and Refentse settlements in Hartbeespoort on Thursday, 5 June, due to Madibeng Municipality’s outstanding debt.
According to the disconnection notices delivered to the two settlements, the outstanding debt for Sunway is over R15 million, and for Refentse over R10 million.
This follows the concern expressed by the North West Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CPGTA) last week about Madibeng’s outstanding debt to Tshwane, Eskom and water boards.
Madibeng’s current total debt to creditors is almost R2 billion.
According to councillors, the concern now is whether the rest of Hartbeespoort will be disconnected.
Kormorant is waiting for a response from the City of Tshwane and the Madibeng Municipality.
