Village Mall, Aequitas installs cameras for community safety
Village Mall, in collaboration with Aequitas Security Solutions, announced a new initiative to improve community safety with the installation of a state-of-the-art Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera.
The ANPR camera was unveiled on Friday. “Village Mall is proud to introduce this contribution to community safety. We identified a need for enhanced security and this upgrade is expected to significantly improve the safety of the community and surrounding areas. Our security partner Aequitas Security Solutions is known for making multiple arrests and recoveries of wanted vehicles through this technology,” said Heleen Erasmus, general manager of Village Mall.
Ettienne Louw of Aequitas Security Solutions said the company had installed 3 ANPR cameras outside Village Mall. “Sponsored by Village Mall, these ANPR cameras monitor vehicles on the main exit road, enhancing security in the surrounding area. The ANPR system automatically detects and records vehicle license plates, alerting authorities about suspicious vehicles or vehicles wanted by the police through the NaTIS system directly to Aequitas Security Solutions Control Room. It also sends notifications to area vehicles for rapid response,” he said.
This initiative is part of Village Mall’s Nelson Mandela Day efforts, dedicated to community service and giving back. “By undertaking this project, Village Mall underscores its commitment to community values and safety. The addition of the ANPR camera not only demonstrates our dedication to creating a secure environment but also supports the broader goal of making Hartbeespoort a better place for everyone,” Erasmus said.
