Young man saves pup from dreadful death

Thanks to the kindness and courage of a teenager, a beautiful pup was saved from a heart-breaking fate and now has a second chance at life.

The pup is now safely at HAWS.

A teenage boy, called Xavier, was walking along Van der Hoff Road in Hartbeespoort last week when he saw a man dragging the young dog with a cord around her neck. “When Xavier asked what he was doing, the man coldly replied that he planned to tie her to a tree and leave her to die – because he “didn’t want her anymore,” said Hartbeespoort Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) inspector Stanford Wasarireuhu.
Thankfully, Xavier acted fast and called Stanford who rushed to the rescue.
“This is the tragic reality for too many unwanted dogs, often born because pets aren’t sterilised. It’s hard to believe anyone could be so cruel to a loyal, feeling, trusting creature—but this story reminds us there are good people still out there,” HAWS said.
To Xavier, Stanford, and the HAWS team: thank you for showing this pup that not all humans are heartless. She’s now safe, healing, and will soon be looking for a forever home full of love and the life she deserves.
She’s learning that not all humans hurt… some really do care.
