As the festive season approaches and activity increases on Hartbeespoort Dam, SAMSA Marine Law Enforcement Officers will be conducting intensified safety and compliance operations throughout December.
“Our goal is to promote safe, responsible boating for all water users,” Arthur Crewe said.
Law enforcement officers will be inspecting boat and require the following:
Required documentation must be laminated and on board and include:
• Local General Safety Certificate (LGSC)
• Valid Skipper’s Licence
• Buoyancy Certificate
Ensuring these documents are present and accessible helps streamline safety checks and keeps the dam safe for everyone.
Safety equipment & vessel compliance
Skippers are reminded to carry all required safety equipment appropriate for their vessel category.
Please also ensure that no overloading of passengers or equipment takes place, as this significantly increases the risk of accidents.
To uphold safety standards, fines will be issued for non-compliance. Serious offences may result in the vessel being confiscated for further investigation by SAMSA, as stipulated in Marine Notice 13 of 2011.
“Our marine officers will be highly visible on the water and at launch sites to assist, guide, and ensure a safe environment for all,” he said..
Marine Law Enforcement Officers will be on standby throughout the festive season. If you require assistance or encounter an emergency, you are welcome to contact them immediately at 012 004 1888.
“Let’s work together to make this a safe and enjoyable boating season on Hartbeespoort Dam.”
