The Madibeng Municipality disconnected the electricity supply to defaulting businesses and estates in Hartbeespoort on Thursday.

The Madibeng Municipality has been busy cutting the electricity supply to businesses, office parks and estates in Hartbeespoort and Brits last week.
Thursday saw many Hartbeespoort estate residents and businesses in office parks left without electricity as a team from Madibeng swept through town to disconnect defaulting clients.
“The team disconnected the electricity supply to approximately 14 businesses and estates in Hartbeespoort that owe the municipality almost R5 million rand,” said municipal spokesperson Tumelo Tshabalala.
The Madibeng Municipality has for the past weeks been working hard on Operation Patela, a revenue enhancement programme, aimed at addressing defaulting customers, illegal connections and the installation of split meters to increase much-needed revenue for the municipality.
“We have allowed lawlessness to continue for long enough and we are now paying the price as the municipality. It is for this reason that we must now make things right and collect what is due to the municipality for continued uninterrupted supply of services to continue” the Executive Mayor, Douglas Maimane said.
The operation has been ongoing in Brits, Letlhabile and other parts of Madibeng.
