Come take part in the big Hartbeespoort Clean-up on 18 May.
Wessa (the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) Northern Areas Region, BirdLife Harties and the Rotary Club of Brits Hartbeespoort have again organised the Harties Clean and Restore Project, an annual event aimed at restoring and maintaining the pristine environment of the Hartbeespoort Dam area.
“The focus is on the overall benefit of the community and the preservation of the biosphere. This initiative serves as a beacon of environmental stewardship and community engagement,” said John Wesson of Wessa.
The primary objective of the Harties Clean and Restore Project is to mobilise community members, government stakeholders, and local businesses to participate in a collective effort to clean and maintain the Hartbeespoort Dam environment. “By fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility, we aim to promote sustainable practices and preserve the natural beauty of the region for generations to come.”
On Saturday, 18 May, from 07:00 to 12:00 volunteers will be engaged in various clean-up activities, including litter removal, recycling, and beautification efforts along the dam and surrounding areas. Workshops and information sessions will be conducted to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and the impact of human activities on the ecosystem.
Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to restoration projects, such as tree planting, erosion control, and habitat restoration to enhance the biodiversity of the area.
“We invite stakeholders from government agencies, local businesses, schools, community organizations, and residents to join us in this noble endeavour. Your participation and support are crucial in ensuring the success of the Harties Clean and Restore Project. Together, we can make a tangible difference in preserving the natural heritage of Hartbeespoort Dam and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.”
Join in the clean-up to make a positive impact on our environment and our future.
