HAWS rescues 21 puppies in one week
The Hartbeespoort Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) is brimming with puppies after rescuing 21 in just one week. Another 20 puppies were taken in at the shelter the weeks before.
“We have over 40 puppies at the moment and we are in urgent need of puppy food,” said Ilke van der Merwe of HAWS.
Two large litters of puppies with their mothers were found, presumably dumped in the bushes in Hartbeespoort last week. Another litter was found dumped on a street in a settlement, and the others were handed over to HAWS. “The mothers are emaciated and need special care to enable them to feed the puppies. We need nutritious dog food to get them healthy.”
In the weeks before, HAWS was also inundated with puppies. “With over 40 puppies, our dog total at the kennels is about 100. We urgently need dog food, and especially puppy food to get the little ones ready for adoption.”
If you are thinking of getting a puppy, please don’t shop, but adopt one of these cuties from HAWS. Please donate food and blankets which can be dropped off at the HAWS donation boxes at Pick n Pay Village Mall, at the shelter in Rietfontein, or at the HAWS Book Shop at the Ifafi Business Centre.
