Healing hands at Bangs & Butch
Tshidiso Mokoena, the masseur at Bangs & Butch in Schoemansville has had healing hands since he was small.
“As a small child, I always rubbed my grandma’s feet and neck when she was feeling ill or sore. She told me I had to rely on my hands. She taught me to garden and do all kinds of things with my hands, but the most important was to heal with my hands. She said my hands were magic,” he said.
After school, he studied jewellery design and then went on to complete a beautician and massage course, with the focus on healing. “I had a mentor who told me if I want to do something, I must put my whole heart into it. I do that with my massages. When someone comes to me, I can pick up signs of depression, anxiety and emotional pain through physical pain. I first establish a medical background and then decide on which essential oils to use in my massages. The aim is to soothe, relax and help them heal. And I see clients change. They might come in stressed and in a rush, but they leave calm and with a smile,” Tshidiso says.
In his tranquil and inviting massage room in the salon, Tshidiso offers Swedish massages, deep tissue massages, hot stone massages, aromatherapy and Indian head massages. ‘I love helping people with my hands and I feel the massages are a perfect complementary extension of the salon’s hair, nails and beauty services. I want to see Bangs & Butch branch out even more and become our clients’ home away from home.”
