Resident chases, thwarts fleeing robbers
A brave resident this week chased fleeing robbers and persisted in cornering them, eventually causing them to leave their vehicle and flee on foot.

A Hartbeespoort resident chased robbers until they fled from their vehicle on foot.
Hartbeespoort resident Moosa Mataboge was returning to his car in the Sediba Plaza parking area when he saw two women walking away from their car. “As I got into my car, I saw a man in their car. At first, I thought he was with them but then I saw he was getting items out of their car and putting it in a Volkswagen bakkie with another occupant. When they realised I had seen them, they sped away,” Mataboge told Kormorant.
He did not hesitate and pursued the thieves. “I chased them, and they turned into the fuel station on the corner of Beethoven Road, presumably to drive through. I cut them off and they reversed and drove around the back of the fuel station. I again blocked them and they jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot,” Mataboge said.
Mataboge left the vehicle under guard at the fuel station to look for the two women who were robbed. They were found and accompanied Mataboge to the scene where the robbers left their vehicle. Their belongings were returned to them.
PWV Security was on patrol and arrived at the scene to assist. “False number plates and a jammer, among other things, were found in the car,” Clive Fischer of PWV Security said.
The police seized the vehicle.
